We moved in to our new house just over a month ago on April 1st; 14 months to the day from when the builders first broke ground on our property! We are thankful to the whole crew who made this happen for us.
I know you’ve all been waiting for updates but, unpacking boxes and getting settled takes time. Also, despite how careful we’ve been, we managed to somehow get COVID immediately after moving in. Yikes! And here’s my disclaimer: there are still contractors here pretty much every day taking care of touch ups to cabinets, exchanging light fixture shades, adding dimmer switches, etc. so there is no BIG reveal yet; but, there are a few photos below to see our progress since my last blog post. Enjoy!
WORK ZONE BEFORE MOVE-IN

HOUSE EXTERIOR
It’s worth noting that the exterior of our home has not yet been painted; but, our final choice of exterior house paint colour is Sherwin-Williams Alabaster. We can’t wait to see how it will look with all of the black accents and light fixtures. Don’t you love our honeybee rain chain cup? The rain chains are being installed next week. In the meantime, hubby is hard at work filling the garden boxes with soil to grow our veggies — yes, we are getting a late start this year.

ENSUITE BATHROOM
We LOVE how the bathroom turned out with all it’s vintage inspired fixtures, penny tiles, and of course the cast iron claw foot tub. The wall paint colour, Benjamin Moore’s White Dove, turned out to be a perfectly soft creamy neutral white (without any hint of yellow). We paired it with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White for the trim, and it all looks amazing throughout the house. Pairing whites can be tricky but if you’re looking for whites that work together with just a wee bit of contrast, this is such a great colour combination.
Should we add some Parisienne style pictures on the wall at the foot of the tub? Scroll to leave a comment below.

THE OFFICE
After setting up make shift desks and a temporary work/live space in a rental apartment (we fondly referred to as the “waiting room”) for a year, it is such a relief to have a beautiful dedicated workspace. Our chocolate lab, Poppy, loves to snuggle up on the window seat during office hours. The cabinet paint colour, Benjamin Moore’s Beach Glass, turned out stunning, don’t you think?!

THE GREAT ROOM
Since these photos were taken, the fireplace has been installed; but, we’re still busy putting pictures up on the walls. I did however manage to find a special place for my favourite blue pottery pieces and ginger jar.

THE PRIMARY BEDROOM
This room makes us so happy. The feature wall paint colour, Benjamin Moore’s Water’s Edge, is an elegant old world blue that looks even more beautiful in person than what you see in the photo. It reminds us of the ocean now that we’re so close to the beach. The window seat is a great place to snuggle up with Poppy and read a good book with a hot cuppa on a rainy day.

I hope you enjoyed the photos. As you can see we’re in the home stretch of our house build. Writing this blog was a nice trip down memory lane. It reminds me of how far we’ve come since we first began this project.
You may have noticed in the photo of our front garden (above), there is quite a large tree. We planted it in memory of my Dad, who passed away last year at this time. It seemed like such a beautiful way to honour such a special person. Keep watching this space because in my next blog, I’ll include video of how the landscapers had to use a crane to plant this large Maple tree, and another large Japanese Maple in our backyard. I’ll also share some footage of us at work assembling the new garden boxes.
Now that I’m in the house, I’ll be setting up my macrame studio once again. There is a small selection of my work available in the shop here. I’m currently planning to create a custom piece to hang in our bedroom and I’ll post a photo when it’s ready — right now, it’s only a work in progress.
As always, I’ll leave you with a beautiful, peaceful photo of the water taken right here in the Comox Valley.
