We have a dream to build a little house by the sea with a south-facing woodland garden, quiet reading nooks, a garden room, an artist studio for creative pursuits, a cozy fireplace or two, a listening room for our old-school record collection, and a kitchen made for small gatherings.
Inspired by Modern Farmhouse meets Cape Cod meets English Cottage, we’d like to have all the things we love combined into a home-sweet-home that says “us”. Fresh, clean, bright, and cozy design.
Far from the city’s dust and heat,
I get but sounds and odours sweet.
Who can wonder I love to stay,
Week after week, here hidden away,
In this sly nook that I love the best–
This little white house like a ground-bird’s nest?

It will be near the sea so we could take the pupper for walks along the sandy beaches; but, also near green spaces and peaceful hiking trails accessible year-round.
We are not interior designers; but, we do have a very clear vision for our dream home that is guiding us through our home-building journey on Vancouver Island. This has made it so much easier for us to choose lighting, paint colours, floors, countertops, tiles and exterior finishes. Being organized and working with a trust-worthy builder has also been key.
This is a learning process for us so I hope that what we learn will benefit you too.
Stay tuned for more about our home-building adventures as we choose lighting fixtures, paint colours, cabinets, hardware, flooring, tiles and more. We’ll also blog about our plans for our woodland garden design.
