If you’ve been following me on social, you probably already know that I love everything that mixes textiles, colours, and textures with anything home and garden. I can spend hours poring over interior design magazines, or searching out garden ideas online, and then trying them out in my own home or outdoor space. I also like to create, and up until now, this website and my social channels have been mostly about macrame, candle making, the odd furniture refinishing project and visits to the local farmer’s market.
Although macrame and candle making has been a perfect escape during the pandemic, I’ve recently put these projects aside to make room for a much larger, and more personal, project. My hubby and I (and Poppy, our choco lab) have moved to beautiful Vancouver Island and we’re building a house!
Somebody pinch me. Is this really happening?!
This is a really big deal for us. We’ve never been part of building a house. At first, it seemed like a mammoth undertaking and I wondered if I’d be spending an entire year completely stressed out. But, as it turns out, building our dream house has become a positive and grounding focus for us, at a time when there is so much chaos going on in the world.
I never dreamed that family and friends would be so excited and curious about our “Little House on the Island” project! So, for the next little while, I’ll be temporarily using this space to share our experiences about building the house, exploring Island life, and taking a whimsical woodland garden plan from imagination to reality.
Unfortunately, there won’t be any new macrame or candle creations for awhile. We’re currently living out of boxes while the house is being built. That means any other creative pursuits are taking a back seat for the time being. But in the meantime, I hope you’ll visit this space often and enjoy taking this journey with us.
